Summary:

  • The Director of Data Platform Operations is responsible for ensuring the Epic Cogito environments (Clarity, Caboodle, Slicer Dicer) used for analytics achieve peak performance as well as a high degree of resiliency. This includes ensuring that these environments are built according to Epic's standards and at the requisite SU level in line with the corresponding Chronicles environments. In addition, this position is responsible for overseeing the PennDnA cloud and on-prem environments to ensure policies and standards are created and followed. This position demands strategic leadership, technical acumen, and a deep understanding of healthcare data ecosystems. The Director oversees a team of approximately 10 people.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for modernizing PennDnA platforms aligned with organizational goals, with a focus on Cogito and Cloud platform technologies and methodologies.
  • Team Management: Lead, develop, and manage a team of data professionals. Set high performance expectations and help team to achieve them. Create a positive team culture that promotes excellence and collaboration. Help individuals connect their work to Penn Medicine’s mission.
  • Cogito Platforms Maintenance & Reliability: Accountable for achieving outcomes each year related to: 1. Understand and ensuring that these platforms meet Epic’s Honor Roll requirements 2. Maintenance and reliability of the platforms providing data used for analytics. This includes Clarity, Caboodle, and Slicer Dicer.
  • Cloud Platform Management: Drive the migration of data to the cloud, ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance. Establish and enforce governance practices related to cloud data.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with IS, Epic, Microsoft, users, and administrative stakeholders to understand data needs, optimize the platforms, and help drive data-driven decision-making across the organization. Lead projects requiring coordination with cross-functional teams, ensuring seamless execution.
  • Continuous Improvement: Maintain technical expertise and serve as a subject matter advisor on platforms. Stay abreast of vendors’ roadmaps including Epic and Microsoft, industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies. This can include establishing relationships with other health systems regarding these platforms. Identify opportunities for improvement and implement changes to enhance these environments for efficiency, reliability, and user satisfaction.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks related to on-prem and cloud platforms, develop mitigation strategies, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field Equivalent Experience (Required)•
  • And 7+ years Progressively responsible experience in system administration management (Required)
  • Experience managing teams and large complex cross-functional projects for enterprise-wide applications (Required)
