Job Title:Senior Billing Specialist

Entity:  HUP

Department:  Radiation Therapy, Oncology
Location:  Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine, 3400 Civic Center Blvd, Philadelphia, Pa
Hours: Full Time, 8 hour shift Monday - Friday

Summary:

  • Review all charges (both technical and professional) for the Department of Radiation Oncology, prior to billing from both the EPIC system and the ARIA system as it pertains to compliance and Radiation Oncology billing guidelines. Work all claims in EPIC (Pre-AR and Payer related edits) to ensure timely billing to the respective carriers.

Responsibilities:

  • Codes and bills select services as required.Enter charges and charge corrections directly into Aria and EPIC.Follows-up with RAD ONC (internal) and HCBO/PBO (external) department to obtain information required for billing.Print, review, and prioritize treatments and simulations on a daily basis.Performs manual updates to patient, insurance demographic fields and DX codes in Aria V15.5 and EPIC.Reconcile exported charges to posted charges monthly.Monitor various interfaces to make sure charges are being exported from ARIA to EPIC.Screen inpatient vs. outpatient status of all patients using EPIC to ensure that the correct HAR is being selected in ARIA for charge capture through the interface.Review all dosimetry and physics charges in Aria for release to EPIC.Follows-up with dosimetry and physics regarding outstanding documents that need approval.Works with the Hospital Billing Office to manage all documentation requests as they relate to rejected claims.Compile all documentation necessary for internal and external audits.Manually charge corrects billing errors for dosimetry and physics directly in V15.5 ARIA.Monitors the Charge Error list.Monitors and identifies unbillable charges and adds those charges to the Unbillable Log as to further identify billing errors to report out to Practice Manager.Handle all professional and technical Rad Onc work queue edits in EPIC.Implement and support all new billing processes with office colleagues to ensure continuity with UPHS/Rad Onc billing/collection standards.Responsible for the daily review of all dosimetry and physics chargesBackup for all treatment charges.Interfaces with Physicians, Physics and Dosimetry on a daily basis to ensure all documentation is correct for billing.Pulls all documentation and assembles packets for RAC Audits.Reduction in departments coding, billing and compliance issues.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • 5+ years Recent prior experience in healthcare billing environment (required)
  •  1+ years Thorough knowledge of third party insurance coverage guidelines (preferred)
  • And 1+ years Highly organized, with efficient work habits in a multi-tasked environment (required)
