Summary:

  • Drives overall customer service for the patients of myPennPharmacy. Performs benefits investigation and processes prescriptions. Performs refill adherence calls to ensure patients are compliant with ongoing therapy. Assists with dispensing and delivery functions to ensure timely access of patients' medications. Completes inventory management functions to ensure that the pharmacy can meet the needs of its patients.

Responsibilities:

  • Complies in all activities with accreditation, legal, regulatory, and safety requirements for a specific practice setting.
  • Complies with all third party insurance plan rules and regulations.
  • Where appropriate, the technician assists the Pharmacist in assuring that patient specific parameters including weight and age, etc are considered in medication preparation.
  • Fills orders and prescriptions accurately and courteously.
  • Fills medication labels, correctly in a timely fashion.
  • Returns medications to appropriate areas as identified by policy or Pharmacist direction.
  • Keeps active inventory in work area, appropriately restocks area with returned medications.
  • Provides timely communications to Pharmacist for checking, delivery and general activities.
  • Plans, maintains, controls inventory levels.
  • Completes billing, credits, in a timely manner.
  • Proficiency on all systems.
  • Completes times cards accurately and timely.
  • Punctual arrival to work and return from breaks/lunch.
  • Provides support for other staff members toward their overall effectiveness.
  • Contributes to the achievement of departmental goals.
  • Takes responsibility for their own professional development. All under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist.
  • Ability to access coverage and determine payments due from patient.
  • Coordinate that payments are collected.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with all insurance companies. Communication and maintain excellent working relationships with referring physicians and their staff.
  • Work approximately one week in advance whenever possible.
  • Willingly accepts responsibility and demonstrates positive and competent performance.
  • Provides ongoing education and exhibits a willingness to share current knowledge with team members as necessary to help meet organizational goals.
  • Maintain current knowledge about pre-certification process for all Federal, State, and 3rd party payors.
  • Identifies systems issues impacting on the use of resources.
  • Obtain copay assistance utilizing drug company copay resource programs as needed
  • Perform inventory functions daily to ensure pharmacy is well-stockedProcess newly approved medications for labeling, dispensing, and delivery to the patient.
  • Prepare products for shipping by packaging and entering shipping information into electronic information system.
  • Performs refill adherence calls and documents in electronic medical record.
  • Works with clinical pharmacists to identify patients who are non-adherent and refers to clinical pharmacist as needed. 
  • Delivers medications to clinic as needed

Credentials:

  • CPHT or CPT (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • High prescription retail/chain volume experience with a working knowledge of third party insurance plans
