Per Diem

  • General Summary Statement

    Under the direct supervision of the outpatient pharmacist the outpatient technician is responsible for the technical operations of the outpatient pharmacy including processing outpatient prescriptions for adjudication to third party insurance plans, accurately filling prescriptions in a timely manner, maintaining medication inventory, unpacking the daily wholesale order, removing expired medications, and assisting patients at the pharmacy counter.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Accurately enters outpatient prescriptions in computer system.

    2. Fills prescriptions accurately to be checked by the pharmacist.

    3. Maintains appropriate inventory and enters wholesaler order daily.

    4. Completes monthly controlled substance inventory with pharmacist.

    5. Pulls expired medications from inventory and returned through the appropriate process. Checks for outdates monthly.

    6. Restocks all areas of the outpatient pharmacy as necessary.

    7. Maintains a clean and organized work area.

    8. Have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of hospital personnel.

    9. Must be able to perform dosage calculations.

    Education Training and Experience

    · High school diploma. High prescription retail/chain volume experience with a working knowledge of third-party insurance plans preferred but not required. Certification not required but preferred.

     

    Licensure/Certification

    Pa certification preferred

    Work Environment and Hazards

    Standing for the majority of the time. Computer order entry and filling bottles with medications throughout the day.
