Department: Clinical Practices of the University of Pennsylvania Healthcare System

Location: Philadelphia, PA and Surrounding Locations

Summary:

  • The Executive Director of CPUP is responsible for overseeing the clinical and research operations of the University of Pennsylvania faculty practice plan, consisting of 19 clinical Departments with approximately 1,900 faculty members, 3,900 staff, a $460M research portfolio, and annual total operating revenues of $1.1B. Accountabilities include strategic, operational and financial oversight for 250+ practice sites (80% of which are provider-based), Penn Medicine at Radnor, Penn Medicine at Cherry Hill and the Penn Access Center. 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure efficient, effective and patient-centered clinical operations across all sites, in accordance with Penn Medicine values. Develop programs, services and initiatives to anticipate future patient needs, build customer loyalty and generate profitable growth. 
  • Ensure high level, consistent performance, with a focus on timely and convenient access, quality, safety patient and staff/provider experience. 
  • Create and maintain an inclusive, collaborative, diverse culture that effectively balances provider, patient, staff and institutional priorities, and is aligned with Penn Medicine’s values, vision and goals. 
  • Create a professional environment that identifies, recruits, nurtures and promotes talent. Build a deep level of engagement, alignment and loyalty, while ensuring an effective pipeline for all levels of staff and leadership throughout the organization. • Innovate, pilot, and bring to scale improvement initiatives related to all aspects of CPUP operations (clinical, research, business functions). Proactively develop change management strategies for major organizational initiatives. 
  • With the SVP/Vice Dean for Professional Services, lead an effective governance structure that ensures achievement of goals, and alignment with Penn Medicine. 
  • Ensure that clinical and research financial and operational activities are in compliance with all established legal and regulatory rules and laws. 
  • Collaborate and partner with all stakeholders to achieve Penn Medicine goals, including but not limited to: CPUP Departments, Hospital leadership teams, Service Lines, Penn Medicine Medical Group Regional Physicians, Office of Business Development, and UPHS affiliates. 
  • Provide appropriate management controls and stewardship of assets. Consistently achieve and/or exceed CPUP capital and operating budget targets.
  • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures 
  • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization 

    Education or Equivalent Experience Required:

    • Master of Arts or Science An MBA, MHA or relevant advanced degree is required   (Required)
    • 10+ years' experience in management and health-related fields, including extensive experience within an academic health system. 
    • Demonstrated track record in successful clinical practice management and operations. Leadership which maximizes patient service, quality and value.
    • Comprehensive understanding of clinical services, patient satisfaction, legal and operational requirements of clinical practices. 

    Required Skills:

    Excellent analytical, verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

     Ability to interact with all levels of management. 

    Effective at working within a complex, highly matrixed environment; effective influencing and negotiation skills strongly desired. 

    Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple priorities, work under tight deadlines 

    Ability to effectively and appropriately manage confidential information Collaborative style, ability to act independently but also work responsibly in a team environment.
