Summary:
- The Lead Data & AI Governance Technical Consultant will play a vital role in establishing and maintaining technical standards for data & AI governance at Penn Medicine. This position involves collaborating with Governance Committees as well as various technical teams, (including data engineering, data architecture, and data science) to create and enforce standards that ensure high-quality, compliant, and reliable data and AI operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, including experience with data management, analytics, and/or AI development, data & AI governance, and the development of technical standards.
Responsibilities:
- Development of Technical Standards: Draft and refine technical standards for data & AI governance, including standards related to data quality, metadata management, regulatory compliance, model evaluation, and implementation monitoring. Work to ensure the accuracy, consistency, performance, fairness, transparency, and performance of data and data models. Maintain adherence to relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Review and Update of Standards: Regularly review and update data and technical standards to reflect emerging best practices and technological advancements. Collaborate with governance committees and other stakeholders to ensure standards remain relevant and effective.
- Evaluate tools and technologies. Stay abreast of emerging tools and technologies for data & AI governance. Assess their value and relevance for Penn Medicine and propose adoption or standardization, vendor evaluation as needed.
- Data Cataloging and Metadata Management: Develop and maintain data catalogs to facilitate locating the organization's data assets. Develop metadata management, data modeling, glossary and cataloging processes to capture and maintain metadata definitions, lineage, and usage information for data assets.
- Compliance and Monitoring: Develop and implement monitoring processes to ensure adherence to technical standards. Conduct audits and assessments to identify areas of non-compliance and recommend corrective actions. Generate reports and dashboards to provide visibility into compliance status and areas for improvement.
- Collaboration: Build relationships with PennDnA and client stakeholders, including senior leaders. Collaborate with crossfunctional teams, including data engineering, data architecture, and data science, to develop standards and ensure compliance. Provide training and demo, technical guidance, and support to teams to facilitate the implementation of standards.
- Continuous Improvement. Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in data and AI governance. Own continuous improvement of technical standards for the team. Contribute to a culture of performance excellence. Actively seek and apply feedback from others to strengthen capabilities.
- Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.
Credentials:
DAMA- CDMP (Preferred)
Education or Equivalent Experience:
- Bachelor's degree. (Required)
- 5+ years of Data governance, Data Management, Data Modeling Metadata, Data Quality and/or related experience developing technical standards. (Required)
- Master's degree. (Preferred)
- 2+ years of experience with healthcare data and HIPAA. (Preferred)
- 3+ years or experience with Data and AI Governance technologies: Data Catalog/ Metadata Tools (Collibra, Erwin DI, Alation or similar), Data Modeling tools (Logical, Physical, Erwin preferred), Common Data Model DQ and data classification tools. (Preferred)
Skills/Abilities:
- Expertise: Expert in data and AI governance standards and frameworks. Strong understanding of stakeholder needs. Applies knowledge to solve problems and drive team strategy.
- Knowledge of Business Intelligence/Analytics, AI, Big Data and Relational Database Technology and Architecture; Project Management experience.
- Organizational Skills: Proven track record of independently leading projects from concept to execution, coordinating with cross-functional teams, as needed.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Capable of addressing unexpected challenges and adapting project plans accordingly.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate complex concepts to a diversity of stakeholders, including senior leaders. Can be trusted to represent leaders in meetings. Ability to provide training, presentations and demo sessions.
- Relationship Building: Demonstrated ability to build relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders. Ability to identify problems and conflicts and recommend solutions.
- Learning Orientation: Ability and interest to quickly learn healthcare, data analytics, and business concepts.
- Healthcare experience: Experience in health care, including familiarity with regulatory requirements for health care data preferred.
