Summary:

  • The Senior Data & AI Governance Consultant plays a critical role in administering data and AI governance at Penn Medicine. This position focuses on policy development, the facilitation of governance committees, and compliance monitoring and execution. The ideal candidate will have a background in data governance, policy, and/or compliance and possess strong organizational and communication skills. The role reports to the Senior Director of Data & AI Governance.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategy & Policy Development: Develop, review, and update data and AI governance policies and procedures to align with best practices, emerging trends, and organizational needs. Assist in defining the mission, goals, critical success factors, principles, and policies for data and information quality. Research best practices, propose and refine solutions, gather feedback, and develop presentations and briefing documents.
  • Facilitation of Governance Committees: Organize and lead governance committee meetings, including preparing agendas, documenting minutes, and tracking action items. Foster collaboration and communication among committee members to drive effective decision-making and policy implementation. Serve as a liaison between governance committees and other stakeholders within the organization.
  • Compliance Monitoring and Execution: Oversee the implementation and adherence to data and AI governance policies across the organization. Provide guidance and training to staff on policy adherence and governance standards. Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure compliance with internal policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with data and AI use. Provide support for Data Classification initiative to adhere PII, PHI HIPAA and other regulation requirements
  • Project Management & Execution: Lead and coordinate Data & AI Governance projects, ensuring timely delivery, adherence to budgetary constraints, and alignment with organizational goals. Proactively assess and address problems. Continually inspect progress, seeking feedback from stakeholders. Provide regular updates to leaders on progress, impediments, and risks. Suggest improvement opportunities, when appropriate.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project requirements and develop solutions that meet organizational needs. Conduct Data and AI training and demo sessions as needed.
  • Continuous Improvement. Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development. Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in workforce management and people analytics. Look for opportunities to optimize the team’s processes and workflows.
  • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures 
  • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization

Credentials:

DAMA - CDMP (Preferred)


    Education or Equivalent Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree. (Required)
    • 3+ years of Data/AI governance, policy, and/or compliance experience. (Required)
    • Healthcare data experience, HIPAA and PHI, PII Compliance Knowledge. (Preferred)
    • DG Tools/Catalogs usage experience. (Preferred)


    Skills/Abilities:

    • Expertise: Expert in data/AI governance, policy development, and/or compliance. Strong understanding of stakeholder needs. Applies knowledge to solve problems and contribute ideas to governance strategy.  Experience in running Data Governance Committees and working groups, managing agenda, attendees, communication, facilitating discussions and documenting decisions and findings. 
    • Program Management: Proven track record of leading and executing moderately complex projects with minimal oversight. Proficient in creating and maintaining comprehensive project plans, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocations. Detail oriented. 
    • Problem-Solving Skills: Capable of addressing unexpected challenges and adapting project plans accordingly. 
    • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate complex concepts to a diversity of stakeholders. 
    • Relationship Building: Demonstrated ability to build relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders. Ability to identify problems and conflicts and recommend solutions. 
    • Technologies experience: Usage of Data and AI Governance/ Catalog/ Metadata Tools (Collibra, Erwin DI, Alation or similar), familiar with AI, Data classification and DQ Technologies.
    • Healthcare experience: Experience in health care, including familiarity with regulatory requirements for health care data.
