The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (UP) is seeking a FT Night Shift Ob Tech.
The Summary:
- The OB Technician II is a surgical technologist that practices as a fully oriented/trainer partner on the health care team and consistently demonstrates safe practice within the organizational professional practice model. The OB Technician II exhibits UPHS organizational behavioral competencies, which reflect its mission and are embedded in the professional practice competency domains.
- Clinical Judgement & Decision Making: Ways in which employees come to understand the problems, issues, or concerns of our industry professionals and interprofessional practitioners, and our clients and their families, to attend to important information and to respond in concerned and involved ways.
- Employee-Client Relationship: The OB Technician II recognizes the patient (or the patient's designee) as the source of control and a full partner in providing compassionate and coordinated care based on respect for the patient's preferences, values, and needs. Relationship that extends beyond baseline duties to integrate the particular medical professional's informational needs as well as the client's response and his/her religious/spiritual, ethnic, and cultural belief into educational concerns.
- Clinical Leadership: The OB Technician II effectively collaborates and applies innovative, systems thinking to engage in systematic, evidence-based problem solving, decision making to promote effective changes, supports the development of others, and creates a practice climate of responsiveness and learning. This area involves both outside the department, inside the department, and our students.
- Clinical Scholarship: The OB Technician II evaluates and integrates best current evidence with clinical expertise and patient and family preferences and values for the delivery of optimal health care and system effectiveness. Demonstrates critical thinking and response-based practice.
- The OB Technician II demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of surgical instrumentation and ability to handle instrumentation properly, knowledge of sterile technique and ability to create and maintain a sterile set-up and demonstrates professional responsibility and accountability for actions.
Responsibilities:
- The OB Technician II demonstrates how its practice impacts the organizational vision, mission, and goals and the care delivery system. The OB Technician II complies with all regulations and standards of regulatory and accrediting bodies.
- The OB Technician II independently provides patient care through the application of the department specific processes and accepts accountability for the care of assigned patients.
- Works closely with the interprofessional health care team to facilitate the coordination of care across the continuum. The OB Technician II focuses on developing the knowledge and skills necessary to provide individualized care based on physical, psychosocial, cultural, educational, safety, and age-appropriate considerations of assigned patients.
- Demonstrates ability to deliver safe and accurate care to patients throughout the Women’s Health Units under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse and/or physician.
- Promotes and demonstrates self-directed learning and interest in occupational growth. Completes all competencies by the assigned date.
- Receives positive feedback from precepted students, nurses, and surgical providers.
- Facilitates the continuum of care by collaborating to provide patient care that is appropriate for the age and developmental level of the patient.
- Participates in improving organizational performance. Demonstrates professional qualities, responsibilities, and accountabilities. Participates in managing environment of care.
- Manages information appropriately and participates in surveillance, prevention, and control of infection.
Credentials:
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
- Surgical Technologist (Required)
- It is required that the employee:
has successfully completed a surgical OB Technician program sponsored by an entity holding nationally recognized institutional or programmatic accreditation and holds and maintains a surgical OB Technician II certification from an accredited certification program; or
has successfully completed an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the United States Army, Navy or Air Force; or
provides evidence that the individual maintains a surgical OB Technician II certification from an accredited certification program; or
was employed to practice surgical technology by the health care facility on or before December 29, 2020; or
was employed to practice surgical technology as the individual's primary function in another health care facility at any time during the two years immediately preceding December 29, 2020.
Education or Equivalent Experience:
- H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
- Experience: 1+ years Experience as Surgical Technician
