Platform Engineer
The Platform Engineer is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the configuration management operating platform (hardware and software), including the Microsoft SCCM system, Mobile Device Management, Active Directory Group Policy, Microsoft 365, Microsoft InTune and other related technologies. This position is responsible for resolving routine issues associated with the configuration management operating platforms and ensuring that it is available to the UPHS user community.
Accountabilities
The Platform Engineer is accountable for the following:
Windows and Mac System Administration
- Test, configure, install and maintain application software
- Develop automation solutions to improve workflow efficiency and reduce manual work.
- Perform remote analyses on system problems or performance trends and issues.
- Attend Change Control, Root Cause Analysis and Operational meetings as needed
- Assists in the planning, design, documentation and implementation of systems resources supporting the configuration management operating platform.
Mobile Device Management Administration
- Test, configure and maintain mobile device software
- Support end user issues with complex mobile device enrollment and operations issues not resolvable by front line support staff
End User Support
- Provide remote support to customers internally and externally as needed
- Performs remote troubleshooting and analysis of systems
- Answers end user questions and resolves issues
- Assist in instructing end users in the operation and maintenance of systems/equipment
- Updates tickets and assignments according to established procedures
- Analyzes, logs, tracks and resolves complex software/hardware issues of significance within the configuration management operating platform (hardware and software)
Project Support
- Provides research and development services for prospective technologies.
- Acts as a liaison with customers on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects.
- Refers issues/questions to appropriate personnel/manager for follow-up, testing and troubleshooting.
- Assists in the analysis of technical products, systems and/or software being evaluated for use in the environment.
Documentation- Performs centralized IS documentation and related communication functions.
- Performs or updates inventories, knowledge repositories and document libraries as appropriate.
- Follows all UPHS Corporate Information Services established operating procedures and methodologies.
On-Call Support
- Provides on-call support for the configuration management and mobile device management operating platforms.
- Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures
- Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization
Minimum Requirements
Required Education and Experience- H.S. Diploma/GED is required
- 5+ years of Information Technology experience. (Bachelor’s degree may substitute for some years of experience.)
- 2+ years of experience working as an administrator of highly available computing systems.

- Proven ability to analyze, troubleshoot and problem solve complex technical issues and to articulate those issues to less technical individuals.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to constructively resolve issues and conflicts as they arise.

Senior Platform Engineer
The Senior Platform Engineer is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the configuration management operating platform (hardware and software), including the Microsoft SCCM system, Active Directory Group Policy, Microsoft 365, Microsoft InTune and other related technologies. This position is responsible for resolving routine and complex issues associated with the configuration management operating platforms and ensuring that it is available to the UPHS user community.

The Senior Platform Engineer is accountable for the following:

- Coordinates hardware and software installations and upgrades to ensure work is performed according to UPHS policy and technical standards.
- Coordinates and monitors troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common systems problems. Documents systems events to ensure appropriate administration activities are performed.
- Recommends resolution to complex technical issues, associated with the configuration management platform and coordinates the implementation of the approved course of action.
- Recommends version update schedules and ensures that they are completed in a timely fashion and in accordance with UPHS operating procedures.
- Coordinates testing, and upgrades of the configuration management systems files and services. Conducts proper planning to ensure that appropriate back-out procedures are in place and fully tested.
- Acts as escalation point for Engineering team.
