Summary:

  • Under general direction the Corporate Director IS provides strategic and operational leadership and direction for assigned organizational area(s). As a recognized expert and leader in assigned area(s), the incumbent will work with directors, managers and technical staff to deliver complex projects and initiatives typically requiring a large degree of cross-functional participation and coordination. In addition to assigned organizational areas(s), the incumbent will be given accountability for projects or initiatives with potential impact beyond assigned area(s) and critical to departmental or functional goals as well as Penn Medicine's strategic goals. Incumbent interacts closely with senior leadership and key project stakeholders with exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Regularly works through complicated and often political project delivery situations. Incumbent provides input into operational and strategic decisions of IS beyond assigned organizational areas(s).

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for providing leadership for the implementation, support and optimization of the UPHS IS resources.
  • Participates in defining the strategic direction of the department through short and long-term goal setting, assessment of information technology needs, and information systems integration, IT business operations, risk analyses, security, applications development, database management, user and system support, and related operations.
  • Directly manages both director and manager level personnel that are focused on achieving objectives of the assigned organizational area(s).
  • Participates in developing departmental policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiencies, while working through IS managers, leveraging peer resources, engaging external expertise, and maintaining strong relationships with internal business units, and clients.
  • Works through complicated and often political project delivery situations while demonstrating successful outcomes and quick resolutions to problems. Manages a staff of professional and technical employees while working closely with other Information Technology management to ensure project success. Manages conflict and crisis situations. Interacts closely with senior leadership and key project stakeholders with exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Meets with executive stakeholders in order to develop implementation plans, set project expectations and develop organizational relationships between Corporate IS and supporting departments.
  • Serves as the primary contact point between Penn Medicine and assigned organizational area(s).
  • Delivers customer service to IS clients seamlessly across system boundaries.
  • Ensures safety, confidentiality & security of employee and Patient data.
  • Leads cross-functional teams while providing clear expectations on project objectives and priorities.
  • Analyzes current processes and initiates modifications to facilitate successful outcomes in projects.
  • Escalates and resolve issues as necessary while working with the client to ensure expectations are met.
  • Works directly with the client to ensure that overall progress and management of the project tasks are on track.
  • Provides the client with information/education on application functionality to increase client satisfaction.
  • Works through complicated and political project situations effectively and with successful outcomes.
  • Manages team members through the project management life cycle to ensure that milestones are completed according to project deadlines.
  • Clearly articulates problems, issues, and potential solutions to team members, clients and organizational administration.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • Master's Degree is preferred. 
  • 15+ years progressive experience in a complex healthcare provider or healthcare research environment is required. 
  • 10+ years demonstrated management experience (IT or Clinical) is required.
