Job Title: Ambulatory Nurse I 
Department: Podiatry
Location: Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine-3400 Civic Center Blvd
Hours: Full Time

Summary:

Penn Plastic Surgery is hiring an Ambulatory RN to join their podiatry team. The team is comprised of two podiatrists, an LPN, an RN, and a surgery scheduler. The RN is an integral team member and will assist with patient treatment and management from pre-operative to post-operative care. The RN will function as part of a dynamic team that treats a high volume of patients and provides the full spectrum of foot and ankle care. The RN role will include:

  • Providing patient education, counseling, and instruction regarding patient diagnosis, medical/surgical treatments, medications, and pre and post-operative care
  • Managing patient calls and My Penn Medicine messages, answering patient concerns and questions
  • Assisting the providers during their office clinic days – patient consult and examination, EMR documentation, patient instructions and follow-up
  • Provide direct patient care including post-operative dressing changes, wound checks, and suture removals
  • Various other tasks as assigned to assist the team in providing the highest quality care to patients

Responsibilities:

  • Safety: The nurse minimizes risk of harm to patients, families, providers and self through system effectiveness and individual performance.
  • Professionalism: The nurse demonstrates a commitment to the nursing profession through lifelong learning, adherence to ANA’s Code of Ethics for Nurses, participation in a professional organization and advancing community outreach.
  • Person and Family Centered Care: The nurse recognizes the patient (or the patient’s designee) as the source of control and a full partner in providing compassionate and coordinated care based on respect for the patient’s preferences, values, and needs.
  • Leadership: The nurse effectively collaborates and applies innovative, systems thinking to engage in systematic, evidence[1]based problem solving and decision making to promote effective changes within a complex care delivery system supporting the vision of Penn Medicine.
  • Informatics/Technology: The nurse utilizes appropriate information and technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision making across the continuum.
  • Teamwork: The nurse effectively engages in the process of cooperation, coordination, and collaboration in an effort to provide for safe, quality outcomes for patients within inter and intra-professional teams, including virtual teams.
  • Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI): The nurse utilizes data and QI methods to identify potential and actual problems and opportunities to provide care that is safe, timely, efficient, effective, and equitable.
  • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization

Credentials:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support BLS/ACLS/PALS (per specialty)
  • Registered Nurse - PA (Required)
  • Registered Nurse with State Licensure (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience

  • Diploma or ASN from an accredited school of nursing (required)
  • Up to 15 months of nursing experience (required) 
  • Bachelor's Degree - BSN from an accredited school of nursing (preferred)
