Summary:
The Innovation Manager at the Center for Health Care Transformation and Innovation (CHTI) is responsible for designing and executing projects from contextual research through rapid experimentation and implementation. This position requires a high degree of sophistication, strategic thinking, project management, resourcefulness, creativity, and the ability to lead by influencing others at all levels across the organization. The Innovation Manager must have the ability to make key decisions and perform analyses, which will impact project success and completion. The Penn Medicine Center for Health Care Transformation and Innovation facilitates the rapid, disciplined development, testing and implementation of new strategies to reimagine health care delivery, improve patient outcomes, patient and clinician experience, and reduce the cost of care. We believe the best way to make big improvements to patient health and health care delivery is to experiment quickly at low cost, only scaling once we find high impact solutions. Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning: Develop and articulate a clear project or product strategy aligned with the Center’s and broader organization’s mission and goals; support team to develop and refine the product strategy and operations
- Project/Product Management: Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of innovation projects, from ideation to implementation; Develop project plans, track progress, and report on key milestones and deliverables; Consistently demonstrate an ability to drive projects toward measurable impact at scale; contribute to the creation and management of the product roadmap, prioritizing initiatives based on strategic goals; assist in overseeing product development activities, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Alignment: Align diverse stakeholders across Center and Penn Medicine on objectives and approaches to complex projects; work closely with cross-functional collaborators to develop, evaluate, and implement practical and innovative solutions; facilitate collaboration among internal and external stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, administrators, executives, patients/caregivers, and technology partners.
- Research and Experimentation: Lead contextual research and design iterative experiments to quickly test assumption and validate proposed solutions; conduct market research and gather customer feedback to inform the development of new practices and models.
- Continuous Development and Improvement: Identify opportunities for continuous development and improvement of our team, methods, interactions, and project selection and execution; lead efforts to improve team culture, operations, and/or performance based on identified areas for improvement; assist in defining, developing, evaluating, and implementing new workflows and operating models that improve team operations; support programmatic initiatives that enhance team impact
- Performance and Evaluation: Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of projects/products; evaluate the clinical and financial outcomes of projects/products to derive key learnings; regularly report progress to senior leadership and provide insights for continuous improvement and strategy development.
- Expertise Development and Mentorship: Consistently demonstrate an advanced application of primary discipline/methodology (e.g., innovation/project management, design, product management, data and evaluation etc.)
- Serve as a valuable collaborator and mentor to more junior staff, enhancing their professional growth and project outcomes.
Education or Equivalent Experience:
- Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)
- And 3+ years working in health care or a related field, or innovation-related experience (Required)
