Working for this leading academic medical center means collaboration with top clinical, technical and business professionals across all disciplines.Genomic Development Specialist II Penn Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to join the Division of Precision and Computational Diagnostics (PCD) as a Genomic Development Specialist. In this key role, you will be part of the innovative team that develops leading-edge genetic tests to help diagnose and treat patients more accurately. You will develop new clinical assays and work closely with a team of lab professionals to design and perform experiments with the goal of implementing high-quality clinical assays that meet rigorous validation standards while promoting operational efficiency. You will draw on your attention to detail and critical thinking skills to carefully perform complex lab procedures and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
Responsibilities:
• Clinical Assay Development: In partnership with the Assistant Director, Assay Development and the R&D Coordinator, participates in test development activities to develop and deploy clinical assays. Performs experiments and operates equipment as needed to bring about desired results in development of clinical assays. Coordinates resources (IS support, vendor involvement and wet lab participation) to ensure adherence to established timelines. Evaluates instruments, reagents and supplies to support test development activities. Communicates information timely and performs duties in a fiscally responsible manner.
• Clinical Operations: Under the direction of the R&D Coordinator and the Assistant Director, Assay Development, supports clinical assay maintenance. Develops standard operating procedures and trains personnel. Applies knowledge and skills to perform accurately routine and complex lab procedures in support of new test development or for which competency has been established and authorization to perform testing has been granted.
• Regulatory Compliance: Participates in quality management and performance improvement activities. Identifies and problem-solves issues/factors that adversely affect test performance. Performs quality control activities and maintains documentation as required by regulatory agencies.
• Performance Improvement: Participates in performance improvement activities. Identifies and communicates quality concerns.
• Education: Participates in education of staff and trainees throughout the division.
Requirements:
Master's Degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics or related field required PLUS 4+ years performing molecular laboratory procedures with a focus on test development activities.
OR
Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Genetics or related field required PLUS 2+ years performing molecular laboratory procedures with a focus on test development activities and 3+ years in development of molecular assays required.
