Job: Point of Care Technologist 

Hours: 07:00AM-3:00PM, some potential for weekends and holidays 

Location: Lancaster General Hospital, Lancaster PA 

Department: LAB-Point of Care Testing 

SUMMARY: Lancaster General Health/Penn Medicine is currently seeking a Point of Care Technologist. The Point of Care Technologist performs routine and special diagnostic test procedures, as well as supporting Quality Control and documentation,

function verification, instrument maintenance, associated specimen collection, and clerical work as required.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Monitors manual functions of test system and instruments to assure accuracy and precision; performs and runs standards,

patient samples , programmed controls through automated or manual protocols. Distributes and observes proficiency testing

throughout the enterprise.

  • Records and evaluates programmed quality control results according to established control limits; follows corrective action

procedures for out-of-control situations.

  • Reviews patient and quality control results for accuracy. Follows up with corrective action for technical or clerical errors.
  • Performs routine scheduled maintenance, cleaning and decontamination of instruments, equipment, and work areas not

Cleaned by Environmental Services personnel.

  • Helps develop and implement education, training and competency programs. Writes technical procedures according to manufacturer guidelines, regulatory compliance and analytical standards. Maintains good communication and customer service with Laboratory, management and other hospital areas.
  • Functions as a Medical Technologist, as require

REQUIREMENTS:

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a medical lab science program or Bachelor of Science required.
  • MT or MLT issued by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or equivalent agency must be obtained within 6 months of
  • hire.

  • Valid PA driver’s license.
  • One (1) year of clinical internship or Laboratory experience.
  • Previous experience with Microsoft Office Products including Excel, Access and Word.
  • Prior Medical Technologist experience preferred.
