Working for this leading academic medical center means collaboration with top clinical, technical and business professionals across all disciplines.Pennsylvania Hospital is looking for a Medical Laboratory Scientist to join the Microbiology team on the weekends! The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities.
Position Description
Responsibilities include processing specimens, read gram stains, processing blood cultures and reading positive bloods, processing, and reporting flu and COVID-19 testing. Performs procedures and processes specimens using appropriate equipment and instruments available, and in accordance with established laboratory policies and procedures. Performs procedures requiring subjective analysis under supervision and consults with technical supervisor(s) and pathologist(s) regarding atypical results. Performs all testing within their assigned sections using computer linked automated electronic equipment and/or manual methodologies. Performs and records quality control for procedures, instruments, and equipment. Initiates troubleshooting and corrective action. Notifies the Supervisor of quality control results.
Duties include planting, processing specimens, working up blood cultures, reading bench, Molecular Testing. Instrumentation includes: Cerner System, Vitek, Bactec and Cepheid.
Minimum Requirements
The qualified candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree (in Medical Technology or other biological or chemical science) or U.S. equivalent (substantiated by foreign credential evaluation statement) and a minimum of 1 year of moderate or high complexity laboratory testing experience preferred.
MLS Certification by a minimum knowledge based exam such as the Board of Certification (ASCP), equivalent or eligible to take such an exam preferred.
Ability to be cross trained in the Core Lab and assist as additional help when needed.
