Working for this leading academic medical center means collaboration with top clinical, technical and business professionals across all disciplines.The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine has an exciting full-time position (1.0 FTE) opportunity for an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join the Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS)/ LVAD team in their busy and growing program at Penn Medicine, Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Responsibilities include outpatient comprehensive care for patients with Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) or patients with advanced heart failure who are undergoing evaluation for LVAD.The individual in this position will be accountable for independent office visits and back office work to support the practice and patients. This may include: patient calls, prescriptions, triage, on-call duties, transitions of care coordination, and any other relevant work needed to support the MCS /LVAD program.
This role has the opportunity for development with the potential for managing LVAD patients in the inpatient/acute care setting. Additionally, the role as it develops may require on-call coverage (nights, weekends, holidays).
The APP will function under the guidelines as designed by the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center medical staff bylaws and is credentialed through that body.The APP hired by the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology and Department of Advanced Practice of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania will be held accountable through a formal job description, through the delineation of privileges, and through their agreement with their collaborating/supervising physicians. All clinical work hours and associated requirements will be defined and managed by the MCS/VAD leadership team and the cardiology advanced practice lead/manager.
This position has a dual reporting structure. The APP will report to the Cardiology Advanced Practice manager/lead for administrative oversight and role development, and the MCS/VAD Program physician/s, VAD program clinical manager and program leadership for direct oversight of the clinical roles/duties and practice. He / She will be equally accountable to both to the clinical service, service line and the organization.
This position requires a high level of independence but is well supported with a collaborative and multi-disciplinary practice model. The high acuity clinical practice setting is dynamic, fast-paced, and high pressure. Excellent critical thinking, organizational, and communication skills, as well as a strong medical/pharmacology/nursing knowledge are essential.
