Summary:

  • This position includes the 24/7 responsibility of overseeing the clinical experience of all PeriOp technologists in Neuroradiology and Vascular/PeriOp procedures. Proper training in all procedures including Stroke, Angiograms, Angio with Intervention, Lumbar punctures, Vertebral Augmentations, Vascular Procedures, C-arm, and O-Arm procedures will be evaluated yearly through competencies. Assist with hiring of all new staff in the PeriOp setting and conduct yearly evaluations. Provide in-services for existing and new equipment. Technologists will remain patient advocates by continuing on Shared Governance. Ensure technologists understand the need for efficiency to reduce wait times and increase patient satisfaction. Work with leadership to ensure the needs of the department and patients are met.

Responsibilities:

  •  The Radiology Manager oversees the daily operations of Neuro and Vascular Sections including employee scheduling, staffing, payroll and employee management
    • Responsible for all invasive procedures performed in the OR
    • Demonstrates clinical experience in Interventional Radiology in an acute care setting.
    • Works closely with the Lead Technologist for scheduling and education needs.
    • Maintain proficiencies in all Periop/Neuro procedures and fill in clinically when needed for call-outs, vacations and staffing shortages
    • Has strong background and ability to form physician relations with Interventional Radiologists as well as with nursing, technologists, Diagnostic Imaging managers and other key departments
    • Additional responsibilities include protocol development, policy development and improvement, image quality control, PACS support, and patient satisfaction/service recovery.
    • Manage all radiology equipment including scheduling preventative maintenance, repairs, and implementation of new equipment
    • Staff meetings, education, and communication between nursing, surgeons, and radiologists are also integral portions of the position.
    • Coordination of outpatient, inpatient, and emergency exams and schedules is done daily.
    • Responsibilities also include the increase in department efficiency through process improvement/evaluation.
    • Instrumental in keeping Interventional Radiology reading for TJC surveys, including the TJC Comprehensive Stroke Survey.
    • Responsible for overseeing the training and competencies for all PeriOp Technologists.

    Operations:
    Financial Management
    • Budget management for AU/Dept
    • Review Financial Reports distributed to ensure all activity within an AU is expensed in the month.
    • Provide Accounting with accruals
    • Provide Accounting with direction on prepaid expense items
    • Preview monthly expense reports to detect errors/discrepancies and resolve issues
    • Provide budget variance explanations to Radiology Administration
    • Analyze and manage data as tool to manage expenses
    • Ensure Requestor/Drafter understands Material Management Processes
     
    Change Management
    • Proactively develops change management strategy for major organizational activities and events
    • Implements change management strategy within Department and UPHS in alignment with UPHS objectives.
    • Identifies and facilitates agreement of major messages which are consistent and reflects UPHS’ core values
    • Communication plans are effectively implemented
    • Ensure appropriate follow-up of major issues
    • Manage routine and crisis communications throughout the entity/community as they arise
    • Demonstrates recognition of the systemic impact of employee communication and/or policy changes and solicits proactive feedback prior to implementation.
    • Evaluates effectiveness of change and implementation plans.


    Penn Radiology and Periop:
    Protocol and Training
    • Consults and works with patient care teams to determine proper protocols and optimizes protocols
    • Effectively communicates any program policy or procedure updates or changes to clinical staff
    • Responsible for overseeing the training of all Radiologic Technologist Staff including all protocols of Neuro Interventional Radiology, Vascular Procedures, C-arms, and O-arm utilization.
    • Plan and develop education based on the radiologic needs of each area in the PeriOp setting.
    • Evaluate all staff for current Interventional Radiology knowledge, prepare individual learning plans for each staff accordingly. Evaluate learning progress at set intervals.
    • Ensure consistency in practice.
    • Develop competency program for technologists to ensure consistent quality.
    • Administer and evaluate results of competencies.


    Is expected to support and comply with all standards for UPHS licensure; to include TJC, State, and any other licensing agency. Is expected to complete all annual in-service programs both online and on paper as established in UPHS and Department policies.

    Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures

    Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization


    Credentials:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
  • ARDMS or ARRT or NMT or RDMS or RT (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ technical experience in modality
  • 3+ years management experience preferred
