Position Description:
This position supports the PPMC Operating Room, and PPMC departments’ utilization of reusable instrumentation. The incumbent serves as a liaison between instrument processing and purchasing to maintain inventory of different types of instrument sets containing unique types of instrumentation. The incumbent is accountable for generating instrument orders, contacting vendors, receiving instrument orders, and overseeing quality assurance for orders received, and will work directly with the Director of Central Processing to track and update instrument expense records and inventory tracking systems. The incumbent is expected to provide expertise in new set construction, assembly instruction education, and instrument substitution. He/she will work directly with instrument repair vendor to facilitate the maintenance of instrumentation so that inventory remains in proper working order. Must be ambitious, self-starter, and flexible. Sound judgment is most important. Ability to accept constructive criticism is a must. Must be capable of sustained attention to detail in order to best ensure patient and employee safety. Must also be capable of communicating effectively with all levels of hospital personnel.
Minimum Requirements:
Four or more years certified Surgical Technician and/or instrument processing technician experience required. High school diploma or equivalent and a graduate of a Surgical Technologist or Central Processing Technician Program with a minimum of five years’ experience required. Ability to solve problems in potentially stressful situation required. Word processing and basic excel skills required. Demonstrated knowledge and application of instrument care and handling required. Knowledgeable of supply and purchasing protocols beneficial. Attention to detail, excellent verbal and written skills required.
