Position Description:
Under the direct supervision of Registered Pharmacists, the Pharmacy Intern is responsible for, but not limited to the following tasks: Responsible to process prescriptions through the pharmacy system including adjudication of claims to third party insurance plans, for the filling of medication orders timely and accurately, recognize common drug names, and select proper drug, dosage form, strength and quantity, as appropriate for review by the Pharmacist. Throughout the work period , the Pharmacy Intern is stationed at the drop-off/pick-up windows and various filling counters in the pharmacy. Must provide timely communication to the Pharmacist for checking and general activities including proper customer service, patient/employee safety, inventory control, etc. Will also work on Hospital floors as a My Penn Pharmacy Technician, communicating with patients, providers and nursing staff, processing prescriptions and delivering medications to patients being discharged from the Hospital. Excellent communication skills are required for communicating to patients both on the phone and in person. Responsible to process prescriptions through the pharmacy system including adjudication of claims to third party insurance plans, for the filling of medication orders timely and accurately, recognize common drug names, and select proper drug, dosage form, strength and quantity, as appropriate for review by the Pharmacist. The MPP technician will deliver medications to patients in the hospital and clinic setting, coordinate payment and communicate issues to the pharmacist and to the Prior Authorization team as needed. Excellent communication skills are required for communicating to patients both on the phone and in person. Additional responsibilities include participation in service line meetings as required, inventory management, and processing copay cards issued by drug company programs for eligible patients weekly.
Minimum Requirements:
Please apply if you possess these qualifications: Must be actively enrolled in an accredited School of Pharmacy and licensed by the State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Intern within completion of 90 days of hospital / health system orientation . This person must be able to perform dosage calculations; have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of hospital personnel; perform basic office environment tasks; have the aptitude to maintain proficiency in all Pharmacy computer systems, automated dispensing cabinet software and systems, and all technical equipment required to perform duties; and possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and the Internet. Additionally, this person is expected to satisfactorily pass required hospital and government validation examinations. Expected to work a minimum of 8-14 hours on a weekly basis.
