  • The Assistant Director, Patient Transport, is responsible for the effective leadership of Patient Transportation services at the HUP One Campus which includes the successful management of supervisors, finances, customer relations, patient satisfaction, regulatory & quality standards, performance improvement and personnel performance/productivity. In addition, The Assistant Director will be responsible for the overall planning, organizing, and advising of Patient Transportation activities at the HUP Cedar Campus.


  • Operations
  • Coordinates transportation activities and services with key end users and hospital departments
  • Demonstrates applicable knowledge of Telemetry Transport (Process, Procedure, Devices)
  • Responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of departmental performance metrics and statistics
  • Writes and implements policies and procedures under direction of Director
  • Ensure departmental compliance with JCAHO, Federal, and State regulations
  • Oversee and participate in various projects as requested by Director to meet departmental and hospital objectives
  • Proactive in the achievement of HUP goals and objectives
  • Interact with Department and Nurse managers to achieve operational efficiencies
  • Consistently supports departmental work standards and work flows
  • Serve as resource to staff in problem solving and conflict resolution as required
  • Assume Director’s responsibilities in his/her absence
  • Staff Development
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal skills with departmental and hospital staff
  • Replace vacancies within one month of identified open position
  • Responsible for hiring, orienting, managing, developing staff as appropriate, under guidance and collaboration with Director and Operations Managers
  • Conducts monthly department meetings
  • Identifies opportunities for improving departmental processes through advanced technology and/or process revision
  • Promotes opportunities for staff to attend affordable educational sessions
  • Working with Operations Managers, assists staff members in addressing challenges and skill deficits
  • Assigns work that uses staff skills and talents, provides responsibility and challenge, allows for creativity, and offers leadership opportunities
  • Continually provides guidance and support to team members
  • Leadership
  • Displays appropriate degree of confidence in self and seeks resources for assistance as needed.
  • Flexible to the department needs in relation to day to day workload shifts.
  • Recognizes professional responsibility to achieve the goals of the department and Penn Medicine.
  • Upholds patient confidentiality, dignity, and rights in providing care per HIPAA guidelines.


  • Emergency Medical Technician
  • PA EMT-B or PA EMT-P

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science
  • 4+ years Patient transport or relevant hospital experience.
  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • 8+ years Patient transport or relevant hospital experience, in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree
