This position is responsible to provide optimal new patient coordination in an integrated, multi-disciplinary environment. Care will be coordinated across multiples specialties and ancillary departments within UPHS. Employee will ensure that all new patients are well prepared for their first visit by making certain patients are being seen by the appropriate physician and specialty and that patients arrive for their appointment with all pertinent information to ensure optimal care coordination (medical records, test results, referrals, copays). In addition, patients will be provided information on directions, parking and building navigation.
The position requires that the individual convey a positive image of UPHS through excellent communication and customer service skills in support of patients/families and to ensure an ideal patient experience.
Required Education and Experience
H.S. Diploma or GED
A minimum of five years of experience in a medical office setting or Customer Service experience required.
Knowledge of medical terminology and
office procedures required.
Specific knowledge of precertification requirements, CMS medical necessity required.
College level coursework in business, accounting, or health care administration preferred.
Bachelor's Degree And 2+ years Two years of experience in a medical office setting or Customer Service experience preferred.
Third party billing knowledge preferred.
Experience with spreadsheet and word processing software preferred.

New Patient Coordinators schedule patients with the appropriate oncologist, obtain past medical history leading to an oncology diagnosis, and set the expectations for navigating the first visit to our center. This may include multiple consultations with subspecialists in surgical, medical, and radiation oncology.
New Patient Coordinators advocate for oncology patients in assigned disease teams by curating, collecting, and organizing all associated clinical data for scheduled patient consultations. NPCs obtain and process all associated pathology tissue and imaging related to the cancer diagnosis. By working with this data, NPCs develop valuable skills for their future and gain insight into the administrative operations behind effective patient care.
